The secret to finding this pub is to look out for the lamp over the doorway, then push through the heavy door that leads you into a narrow passageway. Take the door at the end on the right and you're in. The interior comprises of a hallway along with a front and back room. The back room is where you will find the bar area along with an open fire on our visit.
This is the sister pub to the Blood Bay, so lock your phone away. I only wanted to show a couple of fellow drinkers a photo and they were acting very nervously towards me. The barman got wind of this and was getting quite irate, to the extent that he slammed my phone shut in front of me and gave me a telling off.
Anyway there were four handpumps with one in use serving Sawley Brewery Little Jack which was fine. There was one shared toilet in the place with a manky old bar of soap on the sink, which looked as though it had seen better days and looked like one of their items from the Georgian period, very unhygienic in my opinion. This parlour pub is only open three nights a week.

As described above, this is a Parlour Pub in a gracious Georgian townhouse that doubles as a publisher's office.Only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 5-9, the discreet lamp above the street door informs the world that the pub is open.To the rear, the taproom, with handpumps, a bar and a couple of tables. Across the corridor is your Edwardian Great Grandmother's Drawing Room, with wingback chairs and time honoured bric a brac. Initially, I thought that the Dog would be like an East Kent micropub, but in fact it is somewhat otherworldly, creating, what to me , is a lovely place for a drink.
One beer and a cider are sold on the handpumps at any one time, the weekend's choice being posted on Twitter. On my mid October visits I had beers from Milk Street and Milton, both kept well ,and a change from the usual beers to be had in Ludlow.
In many ways, this is my ideal pub,at least when I want to relax and enjoy a contemplative pint.
