The Pier Inn is a large pub located opposite Paignton Harbour a few minutes’ walk from the Esplanade. It is a large pub with two bars and a seating/function area called the Harbour Bar in the right hand side of the building. There is a roof terrace on top of the Harbour Bar that affords fantastic views of the harbour and Paignton beach in the distance.
The left hand bar is the larger of the two and houses a pool table and a raised seating area to the left that had some tables set for dining. There were only three other customers when I visited on Sunday evening a few weeks ago, but when I popped back in the following Friday the bar was very busy. This may have been due to the karaoke disco that was the evening’s entertainment. The right hand bar was quiet and seemed to be more popular with the older locals of the area. Another pool table and a dartboard are located here.
The bar is stocked with standard draught and the two hand pumps were off during both of my visits that were five days apart. The turned clips were for Bay’s Topsail and Gold. Food is served until 15:00, but I didn’t spot any menus.

I imagine that it is great up on the roof terrace on a summer’s afternoon, but I didn’t see anything here that would have me rushing back on a dreary day.
