Blue Scrumpy left this review about Stackhouse Bar

The Stackhouse Bar is located in the town centre of Hornsea and rates as just about the best of 25 Yorkshire establishments I visted on a midweek trip. It's quite large for a micropub, feeling more like a bar. However, the atmosphere is good, service is friendly, the surroundings are agreeable and the beer and cider selection is decent.

4 ales were on - Brewsmith Something Dark, Bristol Beer Factory Independence & Legacy & Ainsty Bantam Best. Whatpub states that there are 6 real ciders, but I found just the 2 - SeaCider Raspberry Ripple & Hallet's National Treasure. Craft beers were Wild Beer Quantic, Forest Road Ride & Exale Flowering Funk. A CAMRA discount is offered on halves, as well as pints. I have to say that my Something Dark was one of the nicest beers I tried over the 2 days of crawling.

The interior holds plenty of interest, including a walk/don't walk sign from the USA and a set of airline seats that had a rather grubby appearance. The bench I sat on was also fairly wobbly and the backrest seemed to be about to give way at any minute. Nevertheless, the slightly worn feel gave the place a bit of character that can sometimes be lacking in micropubs.

Definitely the highlight of my visit to Hornsea.

Atmospheric conversion of an old Victorian or similar shop with industrial-type décor and an esoteric mix of furniture, including cinema, airline and church seating. Technically one step up from a micropub - a piano and guitar stand in the corner and there is occasional live music. Some excellent beers available (plus 5 ciders): at time of visit North Riding Rum & Raisin Mild, Fixed Wheel Mr 60%, Daleside Blonde and Bristol Beer Factory BOCA 45.

A former shop, cafe and tanning salon, this converted unit has been a pub for about two years. It was fairly quiet at the time of our lunchtime visit, but with its tiled bar counter, bare brick walls and bare floor boards I wouldn't want to be here when it gets busy. There are four real ales on hand pump and ten keg fonts. There's a record player and customers are invited to bring their own vinyl. The service was very friendly and helpful - we were advised on our cycling route and the likelihood of other pubs along the way being open. A discount of 10% was offered to card-carrying Camra members.
