Ian Mapp left this review about The Blue Ball

Pleasant county pub - seemingly in the middle of nowhere. I was first in at lunchtime and a bit sceptical as to how the first London Pride of the day would be.

It was perfect.

Nice outdoor area. Traditional pub interior setup for dining.

Another pub in the sticks and a self-proclaimed freehouse, this offered Young's Bitter, Adnam's Ghost Ship, Sharp's Doom Bar Amber and Fuller's London Pride which displays a bit of a lack of invention. This has an L-shaped interior with an entrance-facing brick-built bar, a converted inglenook fireplace to the left and a brick-built cousin on the opposite wall. The ales are hidden behind a brick column on the right-angle of the L and a small dining area is located out back. There's a covered patio to the right of the building and a generous beer garden out back along with a couple of pub benches on a green strip the other side of the road. There's a nice pub ambience here only let down by the pedestrian ale range and although I'm not sure whether they are meant to be tongue-in-cheek or not, but the 'dogs playing pool' prints in the Gents are something I haven't seen in a pub for quite a while.
