visited again post-lockdown and enjoyed it - staff were friendly and welcoming and the real ale still excellent. Down to four pumps now, three from Bowland were available plus Landlord. The bar has been freshened up inside and the atmosphere is fine, then again this was midday and the trendy cocktail crowd weren’t in.

This hotel and bar featured on The Hotel Inspector a few years ago, which is how it came to my attention as I seem to remember the programme mentioning the bar establishing itself as a real ale place, so obviously my ears pricked up. I was in Southport recently so managed to pay a visit. I daresay the Peaky Blinders theme is perhaps more on the accommodation side, as the bar area doesn't seem to be overly themed (as noted in the previous reviews). That said, there does appear to be a staff uniform as the two chaps both had a beard, blue shirt with white collar and maroon braces. The one that served me seems to fit the description of ROB and Jon below, so either he still works there or has a clone. His identically dressed colleague seemed a little more friendly.

I passed by at lunch time and there was a big group of pensioners in so presumably they were in for a meal. I returned later, around 1:30pm, and there were just a couple of older chaps in.

At the bar are five hand pulls for real ale, at the time of my visit dispensing Bowness Bay Session IPA, Bowness Bay Raven Red, Bowland Hen Harrier, Bowland Boxer Blonde and Cross Bay Sunset Blonde. My Session IPA set me back £1.75 for a half and was quite a pleasant drink.

I'm glad to have tried it, but I don't feel a need to rush back.

nice bar with attached cocktaily place that I didn't venture into. must have had the same disinterested barman as Rob, not exactly service with a smile. shame because my pint was fine.

ROB Camra left this review about Peaky Blinders

One of the least impressive of all the bars along Lord Street. As OB says it has a nice copper bar and large windows, but the rest was a bit of a mess. I didn't even notice the poster, so I had no idea why it was called Peaky Blinders as I couldn't see any connection at all. Two totally disinterested barmen and a complete lack of unusual beers and very, very average beer quality made this a bit of a waste of time for me. Add a couple of feral brats running around and they're lucky to be scored as highly as I have.

Old Boots left this review about Peaky Blinders

A corner bar with big clear windows and a big copper bar down one side home to five pulls of mainly Greene King or Marstons beers, in an odd reversal of fortune I had a so-called craft beer that was supposed to be hazy but was clear. The Peaky Blinders theme appears to be confined to a poster on one wall, no hints of flat caps, except mine, or brummy accents. Usual industrial lights and Admiralty pattern cable tray décor.

Real Ale Ray left this review about Peaky Blinders

A large corner modern bar with glass front and side, also an adequate sized drinking area out front. Also five ales on handpump on our visit, so we went for the Burscough Priory Gold and Wily Fox Blonde Vixen. The Blonde Vixen was served in a Guinness glass for starters, so asked for a different glass. So after the young untrained barman found a glass, washed it and spent an eternity drying it with a T towel, he brought the drink over to Mrs A, plonked it down and muttered something. I could then tell by Mrs A's expression that there was something wrong, the beer was off. The manageress did have a taste and agreed, so we got our money back and went to the Inn Beer Shop.

A nice place that is based on the TV programme of the same name, I ain't seen the series so don't know what its about. All 5 handpumps were working today with 2 Hartley's beers - Cumbrian XB and Cumbria Way, Burscough Brewery Priory Gold and 2 beers from someone I've forgotten called Lancashire Lass and Spinners Gold. A selection of German beers and craft beers on draught also. The place is single roomed with a street drinking area out front. Its a nice place.

Smart new Lord Street bar with 5 handpumps to go at although there was only 4 in operation on my Sunday lunchtime visit. The bar is an adequate size with a largish outside area on Lord Street to watch the world go by.
