This looks like a big imposing pub on the outside, but once you step inside you realise the available space is actually smaller than it looks. There is a room to the left with a pool table, the bar is straight ahead, and general seating in front of the windows to the right hand side of the pub.

At the bar were four hand pulls, two of which were off, the remaining offering Stod Fold Mandarina Bavaria and Stod Fold Gold. The Mandarina Bavaria was apparently unavailable so that then reduced the selection to one. The Gold was fine, however.

It looks like it may be quite an old pub, with several original features noted though it does have a modern feel overall.

I do feel the place would benefit from a bit more seating as the ever expanding party next to us did leave us feeling a little squashed.

We didn't investigate the Sowerby Taps bar downstairs (which as far as I can gather is part of the same establishment) so perhaps next time we are in Sowerby Bridge we may see how that compares to the main bar upstairs.

The hotel bar along with the Sowerby Taps below. Its a bit posher than the lower part and there were 4 handpumps here serving 3 different beers than were available downstairs. Its not really that much more expensive than downstairs though it is a little bit blander.

Reopened after a long time derelict, it's a single room with exposed brick and stone, laminate floors and an interesting wood and plaster ceiling. Four pulls on the counter which is along the back wall, beers were from Brass Castle, Great Yorkshire, Springhead and Holts, and it goodish nick. There's a vaguely medieval look to the décor mainly from its use of wood, stone and iron. Mostly furnished with tables and chairs with some bench seating. There are some remaining Victorian features in the entrance notably the mosaic, tiles and etched glass. There's something upstairs but I didn't check.

Newly reopened after several years of closure this former grand hotel is still being refurbished, but the bar is now open. It's one room with a couple of alcoves near the windows. Nicely decorated throughout with a mix of comfy chairs, high tables and dining tables. Fairly busy on our Thursday, late afternoon visit. 4 cask ales available on our visit, but sadly the range isn't as inventive as in their sister bar the Sowerby Taps as 3 of the ales available were from Moorhouse's. My pint was good and the bar had a bit of a buzz about it. We'll happily call in here again, I just hope the ale selection gets better.
