Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Box Social

This premises has re-opened as the Delta Lounge, specialising in craft beer from the Alpha Delta brewery. Craft beers from Alpha Delta were Hera, Caelcius, Echo, Phalanx & Brizo. Guests were Tempest Long White Cloud, Neon Raptor Rise & Paul, Cameron's Road Crew & Overkill & Hogan's Cider.

The Echo was a very enjoyable 11.4% chilli & chocolate stout.

Very little has changed from when I last visited Box Social here and luckily for us the bar stays open until midnight, as it was already well after 11pm when we arrived.

The Box Social is based in the same premises where the Split Chimp started life. As noted below it's a single railway arch so the downstairs part is quite small with just high tables and stools. There is a display of cans on racks just below the ceiling. Unusually for a micropub there is no real cider but one of the keg options was a Thistly Cross cider. There was a Classic Rock soundtrack being played which included a track by Jethro Tull which certainly gains it brownie points. I was the only one in early on a Thursday afternoon.
The four cask ales on offer were Box Social Cunning Blonde & Gentleman's Nectar Pale, Brinkburn Street House Of The Rising Sun and Black Iris Endless Summer. I went for the Brinkburn Street one which was a raspberry flavoured strong porter and was so good I stayed for a second one. The £4.10 price tag was discounted to £3.69. I thought this was a good micropub despite the absence of any low seating.

Real Ale Ray left this review about Box Social

An excellent micro and well worth a visit. We were very lucky on our Friday Eve visit to see their Box Social Gentleman's Nectar on handpump, which is a truly fabulous beer and is brewed by a young chap who once worked for Anarchy Brewery in Morpeth and now is part owner of the Box Social. There was also three other handpumps on the bar, two of which were from Box Social Brewery a porter and a Blonde beer named Convive Blonde. They also had a good range of ten beers on keg. The micro also played some excellent rock music.

ROB Camra left this review about The Split Chimp

Built into a railway arch at the back of Central Station. Unusually for a micropub this one has two floors. It's still small though and advertises that it can be hired for groups of up to 50 people. Very neatly decorated with small tables & chairs downstairs and a couple of comfy chairs and more tables upstairs. 3 handpumps on the bar and numerous bottled beers advertised on a blackboard. They also serve wine and prosecco in small pouches which is also unusual. I had a pint of Out There Angara which was in good nick. I liked this place and we'll call back again next time we're in Newcastle. Note that it doesn't open on Monday or Tuesday.
