We arrived here just as the owner and his wife were opening the doors. We told them we'd call back in a while, when they had set up. Instead, they made us very welcome and invited us in to wait, which wasn't long at all and gave us time to read their beer board and decided on the Neepsend Haida. Unfortunately, the Allendale Golden Plover had gone from the Friday night before. This was replaced with an Old School Brewery Bitter. Their third pump had a Salopian Postcard from Purgatory, which was a decent dark IPA. A few more drinkers had popped in on our early visit and were trying different canned and bottled beers from the fridges over in the far left hand corner.

As noted below this is a combined bottle shop and micropub on the ground floor of aqn old corner building. I was first in just after midday on a Saturday morning but a few arrived for the micropub side of it shortly after.
The three beers were Ayr Rabbies Porter, Black Flag Fang and Scarborough Paper Tiger. I went for the Fang which was an excellent pint in superb condition. I certainly didn't miss any pub atmosphere here and liked it. It's GBG 2017 listed.

Situated on a ground floor corner of a good looking Victorian building, this is essentially a bottle shop where you can also sit and drink cask ale.The walls are full of shelves with the bottle selection ,while the interior decor has a pine floor and cheap looking wooden furniture ,also mainly in pine. There are three handpumps at the bar but only two dispensing on my Wednesday evening visit with TicketyBrew Citra Pale and Bollington Endurance IPA,both priced at £3.
It is difficult to generate a pub atmosphere in an off licence space and although it's tempting to pop in to see what is on, despite it's 2016 GBG listing I wouldn't feel comfortable basing myself here for a nights drinking unless I was a friend of the proprietor.Beware of variable and early closing times.
