The Grocers is still going strong and has been open a couple of years now. This is a pretty small micro pub in a former shop. There is no bar as such and drinks orders are taken at the table and dispensed out the back and brought out to you. I have been a couple of times recently and there were three real ales available on both occasions plus I think a couple of ciders. They also serve wine and I believe soft drinks too, plus bar snack type nibbles (crisps, nuts, etc). The owner is a friendly chap and obviously has a passion for real ale, as the quality is always spot on. £3 a pint is fairly good going too. You do get the feeling that there are a set of regulars who spend a lot of time in there, and being so small it is hard to hide in the background - but perhaps that's not entirely a bad thing.

In short, this is probably the only place to go for real ale in Cadishead or Irlam. Not all the other pubs do real ale and those that do only offer the big national brands.
