aleand hearty left this review about Tall Boys Beer Market

Tucked away in the Victorian splendour of Thornton’s Arcade, just off The Headrow, Tall Boys Beer Market originally opened, in late 2014, as a craft beer bottle shop. However, it recently obtained a café licence, now enabling any beer bought to be drunk on the premises for a fifty pence corkage fee.

Internally, it’s a small, low-key affair, with the bottle stands dominating the ground floor space, plus a serving counter to the rear and one solitary bench in the window. Upstairs, there are a further four tables in the upcycled style, that are ‘de rigueur’, at the moment. Also, an ever changing series of photographic exhibitions that help to break up the plainness of the space. Beers available include such sought after breweries as Mikkeler, Kernel and Buxton. Prices range from £2.50 - £10.00, with one or two specials pushing the £30.00 mark. There are also up to four beers available on draught, primarily to fill up re-usable containers known as ‘growlers’. In all honesty, I forgot to ask whether they are also available by the glassful, but it would be a real shame if they weren’t, with rising stars like Siren involved. I enjoyed a Kernel Mosaic IPA, but did feel a little self-conscious, being the only punter in the place. Also, I did struggle, a little, with the rather basic surroundings. Even when imagining the place a little busier, I could only really see myself stopping for the one in future, before moving on. However, the two young guys that served me were friendly and welcoming and answered all my queries with good grace. I wish them well.

Please note the limited opening hours. Sun-Wed: 11.00am-8.00pm. Thu-Sat: 11.00-10.00pm.
