E TA left this review about The Anglesea Hotel

A splendid Regency hotel on the end of the Grade II listed Crescent development, an architectural gem that was intended to rival Bath and Brighton for style when it was built. The hotel was the first of the buildings to be finished, so that prospective buyers could stay there while they viewed the other houses. The public bar is at the back, and is much more down-to-Earth than the rest of the establishment. It offers pub grub, including (bizarrely) 'all-you-can-eat Chinese nights'. There are also bar snacks and machine-spurted coffee on offer. The bar is large and has a high ceiling, but it manages to remain homely and atmospheric. There is an eclectic mix of furniture ranging from Chesterfields to bar stools, a woodburner at one end and various nautical memorabilia scattered around. The locals are lively and a little earthy with their humour, but they were genuinely welcoming and friendly. The staff were particularly pleasant and made us feel very much at home. There is free WiFi, children are strictly controlled and the pub runs regular quiz nights. Three ales on – I had Oakleaf Quercus Folium which was remarkably cheap and in very good condition. This is a hidden gem which I shall certainly visit again and would try to include on a town crawl despite its being a bit out of the way.
