Off the beaten track, this small pub now seems to dually operate as a village boozer and Thai eatery, although it's pleasingly flavoured towards the former, although it has been disappointingly knocked through preventing it being the cosy two-roomer I recall from my previous visit. The main bar room is through the entrance door to the right and is red quarry-tiled with the bar against the back wall. You actually walk into a darts oche, although it isn't marked - a dartboard faces you next to the entrance to the Gents. Seating-wise, there's two trestle-type wooden tables with upholstered benches and lowered settles either side and a bench by the dartboard wall. The former snug bar to the left has a stone fireplace against its left-hand wall with standard tables and chairs for dining augmented by a tall barrel and raised stools in the middle. Low, exposed beams throughout adorned with horse brasses in the main bar area. LocAle Loose Cannon Gunner's Gold was the only clip I could see (four handpumps) although Loose Cannon Abingdon Bridge and North Cotswold Jumping Jack were chalked up on a board behind the bar along with the Gunners Gold, so good on the beer miles all around. Busy with wet trade locals on an early Saturday evening and a convivial Irish landlord who I remember from before. No piped muzak, no TV screens, well-behaved children and an Aunt Sally pitch out front - just what you want from a small, local village boozer in the Oxford surrounds. I kind of never want to never visit here again lest it fails to meet up to this visit.
