Old Boots left this review about The Abdication

The Abdication is opposite the former Home brewery building but sadly opens at 4pm even on a Saturday, so I missed the chance to see if it lived up to Alex Conway’s glowing review.

A former sweetshop now a micro, positioned in a row of shops, with residential dwelling across the 1st floor built in the 1930's, so Art deco in style. The pub was busy on our Sunday afternoon visit and there was also a buffet laid out across the front window. The landlady explained that she had visitors from Australia and I was welcome to tuck in if I fancied a bite to eat, which was a good start and most welcoming. We managed to get a seat and table towards the back of the pub, which was a bit of a haven as the front bar was at standing point. Four ales and two ciders, so we went for the Brewsters Hop a Doodle Do and Oakham JHB. It wasn't long before they had to change a barrel and a North Riding Brewery Mosaic Pale came on, which was excellent, so we stayed a little longer than anticipated.

fantastic new micro pub in the shadow of former home brewery with Home Ales memorabilia decorating the walls throughout. there sits a small wooden bar dispensing four hand pulls from micro brewery's near and far and not a lager pump in sight. The beers change daily with no permanents, on my last visit i enjoyed a pint of stancills Barnsley Bitter that was in superior form as have were all the beers previously. All cask ales are priced at £3.00 with the rare exception of a very high abv in which case the price rises to £3.40, still excellent value for such a good rotating choice that is kept in such good condition. the pub also offers a small wine selection and a few soft drinks.
A very enjoyable new addition to Nottinghams real ale scene that seems to be goung from strength to strength, a must visit for real ale fans.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Abdication

The Abdication is a new micro pub which is situated in a row of shops which are very close to the old Home Ales brewery.
Once inside the front area is square shaped with the bar facing, the floor is tiled with the seating being normal tables and chairs, there is a smaller area to the rear right which also has a few normal tables and chairs.
There were four real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Full Mash Apparition which was a really nice drink, the other beers i noted were Milestone Lions Pride,Nycto Black IPA plus one more i failed to write down.
Cheese and onion cobs were on the bar for a pound,so i had to have one with another drink which was really nice.
I had a good chat with the landlord who was very friendly.
I quite liked this micro pub,one i could stay in for a good session.
