A Georgian vilage pub which appears to have been substantially renovated. There is a gravel car park, which is hazardous to enter given the speed of the traffic at times, and a small garden area. Inside, the rooms have been conjoined to provide a traditional long bar with floor tiles and woodburners at each end, and a separate carpeted lounge. There was also a rather incongruous dart board in the bar area, but judging by the holes in the wall around it, it does get some enthusiastic use. The feel is more like that of a country hotel than a village pub, partly because it wasn’t very busy so was quiet. It’s light and airy, has a feeling of calm and provides a good place to relax, eat and drink. The tables are well-spaced, there are a couple of church pews and there are three padded barstools for those who like sitting at the bar. The staff were friendly. There were 2 ales on, Bath Gem and Tribute, both in excellent condition. I really liked it here, and we were surprised that it wasn’t busier when we visited. I shall definitely drop in next time I’m passing.
