A new-build GK pub on a business park on the fringe of a huge modern housing estate. There is a good-sized car park and plenty of outside seating, part of which is no-smoking. Inside is open and airy, a large L-shape with a bar, sweet counter and carvery on the inside edges. It’s target clientele is families from the estate who want cheap food and don’t mind driving there, meaning the sound of screaming children is part of its charm. There is a compulsory wait-to-be-seated-even-though-you-just-want-a-drink, a bit daft as you then queue at the bar for drinks only. The staff were fairly decent, long suffering even. Two ales on, GK IPA and Abbot, in predictable condition – potable, but unexciting. It’s good at being what it is meant to be, but it’s not somewhere I’d come for an evening’s socialising.

Well it is opening day so thought it would be rude not too make the journey, I needed petrol anyway. A large purpose built food based pub with depending upon which door you walk in a bar either to the right or straight ahead. The adjacent area to the bar is effectively the pub with the rest being laid up for food along with a separate family and adults dining areas.

It has a carvery which I sense will be the main draw given the only other carvery is at the top of Bradley Stoke. There is outside seating although not sure how much of a draw the roar of the M4 is to a pleasant drinking experience.

Three local ales are on offer which seems to be a usp for the pub with food also being locally sourced.

Not one to go out of the way to visit but these are the style of pubs being opened at present.
