We looked for a traditional pub showing the football. We found the micro pubs.

This had the benefit of hand pulled beer but I had not heard of the breweries. As I was experimenting, I went for one of the two ciders on handpull.

My first one since a teenager.

Might be a game-changer!

My fourth micropub of the day and the only disappointment. There are six hand pumps on the bar, with three beers from the local Goody brewery plus one from rather more distant Lincoln Green. The owners appear to be a couple, one of whom was doing something on a laptop out in the customer area, and had to get up and go behind the bar to serve me. I didn't detect any interest in her customers, and I had to ask about the three Goody beers, which were unfamiliar to me, getting only a perfunctory description. This place seems like a regular bar to me, with a large range of spirits, it just happens to be small. The beer I went for was in poor condition though not so bad that I was prepared to interrupt the laptop again to ask for a replacement.

Seems to have opened again under new owners. Apparently now does CAMRA discount and a selection of Belgian beers.

Review From May 2016

This is a smaller micropub with a single square room, a shelf with some stools to the right and a bench with a low table and chairs by the front window.
Only three beers were available Adnam's Broadside, Kent Session Pale and Long Man Sussex Pride. I went for the Sussex Pride (£3.40) which was in good nick.
Although I didn't think this was as good as the Bouncing Barrel it's still a good micropub and well worth a look.

A bus from the Copper Pottle dropped outside the door, which saved a bit of leg work. The bus also saved us time as this micro shuts at 3pm on a Saturday for a few hours, so we managed to get here for 2.30. The layout consisted of a small and comfortable front room with a small bar area situated in the left hand corner, with close access to the cold room. There was also a tiny snug found on the left, midway along the rear corridor. Three ales on stillage, served from the cask, Young's Bitter, Sharps Cornish Coaster and Mighty Oak Hop Music. We went for the Mighty Oak, the barmaid and remaining drinkers were all friendly and chatty.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Firkin Frog

Herne Bay's first micropub, converted from a small shop that apparently previously housed Steve's Kitchen Showroom (although there can't have been much display space!). Compact bar, with a small counter next door to the tap room that has a full-height window so the barrels can be viewed. As you would expect, all a bit rustic, with just a few items of furniture and decor mostly comprising pump clips. Basic bar snacks: locally-sourced pork pies, scotch eggs and cheese / biscuits. Up to nine beers on gravity, plus three ciders, with Gravesend Shrimpers, Dark Star Hophead, Harveys Dark Mild and Millis Kentish Red (£3.20) on when I visited. With its friendly landlord and amiable customers, this one is well worth seeking out.
