Quinno _ left this review about Hogarths

Extremely long and narrow new-opener opposite the Urban Tap House with an entrance at either end. A self-styled ‘gin palace’, hence the choice of name. There are five distinct semi-room drinking areas off left down the landing strip all with a pseudo-Spoons library feel, new wood panelling and old books in shelves abound. There are plenty of screens, on my visit showing a pointless pre-season friendly and Sky Sports News. There's a marquee bar, bespoke with etched ‘gin palace’ glass, lovely black and white tiled floor area and a bespoke display cabinet upper. Of particular note is the jumbo Hogarth print on the far wall (see pic) which is very impressive. The whole place must have cost a fortune. An initially exciting five pulls elicited only two ales, Brains Original and Hogarths (from Bolton, apparently) Company of Undertakers. The latter was in pretty good nick but at £1.95 a half, massively out-of-kilter with the ale prices elsewhere in Newport’s better outlets. Looks like it’s aiming to be to be an upmarket Spoons but pulled up short on this showing. A shame as I really did want to give it a positive review.
