We are in Cotswold central, so you are going to have to look hard if you're after a traditional village pub. Almost all of them have ended up like this, an expensive restaurant with a bit of a bar left so they can keep up the pretence. It's the usual fifteenth-century chocolate box building, with the bar at the front. You get to see any number of rooms laid up for eating (including tacky tin candlesticks) if you enter from the crunchy gravel (another giveaway) car park. That's if the red Michelin stickers haven't scared you off.
Anyway the bar is nice, stone floor, beams, wood burner. We doubled the number of customers on a wet midweek afternoon and reduced the number of unlaid tables to zero. But the Hooky was nice and less than four quid, which is good going around here.
If you're fine with stifling middle-classness and fancy food then this is one for you. If not wait for decent weather and enjoy the pleasant garden.
