Will Larter left this review about Lodore Falls Hotel

The sign near the entrance saying "ramblers welcome" gave me the courage to enter the portals of this very smart hotel. Its location near the dramatic but rather difficult to access falls (made famous by Robert Southey's poem, which is more accessible) justifies its existence, though there's also a reasonably good view of Derwentwater. A very imposing edifice in the local grand hotel style, it's rather off-putting to a humble fell walker and pub crawler such as me, and my pre-Christmas visit was my first in almost five decades of visiting the area. The equally grand hotel bar is to the left on entering the main entrance, and to be fair no one appeared to be at all fazed by my rucksack, shorts and walking boots. All the customers were very casually dressed, it was only the staff who were in formal attire. Several family groups were tucking into bar lunches and having a very good time by the look of it. I was only after a beer, so the presence of two hand pumps was a welcome sight. They were serving Jennings Cumberland Ale and a seasonal special. The bus up or down the valley stops quite near the corner of the hotel, or in summer a trip around the lake by boat can be boarded from the jetty just across the road.
