Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Hogarths

Self-described as a 'gin palace', and it does have a few vaguely opulent Victorian-style features (certainly more so than the Tamworth outlet). Comprises a long rectangular bar with a variable ceiling height, and a small mezzanine seating area at the front end. Four handpumps on the counter, dispensing the 'house' Upon the Pedestal (very keenly priced at £1.95) and Ruin at the Gaming Table plus Hobgoblin and Old Rosie cider. Overall, better than expected.

Interesting one. The words 'Gin Palace' would have been enough to remove the smile from my face, but fortunately I had just come from the Spoons and so I didn't have one anyway. A tidy, modern exterior hides most of the heritage and the inside is effectively a long room with a balcony. The interior is a juxtaposition of wood panel and coloured glass (in Victorian style) with a plethora of TV screens and quiet music. The service was very friendly and the clientele mixed. Three ales: Hobgoblin and two from their own brewery which were both fine (named below). A better experience than I thought and I would go back, although I am left with the thought that if we hadn't destroyed so many of our historic pubs then we wouldn't need such recreations.

A very neat and ornate looking pub on the inside, although I doubt that much, if any of it, is original. This was our second stop on the PuG crawl and the meeting up venue for several of the crew that didn't make it to the JDW. A massive selection of gins (it took Tammy a good 10 minutes to choose one) and a decent selection of ales. I also went for Up On The Pedestal which was a well kept and pleasant tasting drink. We'd actually called in here the night before when they didn't have any cask ale on at all, so maybe we just got lucky on the second visit.

A very handy positioned pub, close to the bus station. We entered the pub from the bus station side, which didn't build great expectations, but once through the doors, I was pleasantly surprised, with the elaborate interior. Lots of oak finishing in here, which included a plentiful supply of wall panelling, an oak bar counter and a herring bone patterned bar front. A few private booths, which incorporated red leather buttoned seating, situated near the front entrance, along with a couple of decent sized chandeliers gave the pub some Edwardian refinement. Three ales Hobgoblin, two from Hogarths, brewed in Bolton, which were Ruin at the Gaming Table and Up on the Pedestal. I went for the Up on the Pedestal which was a very decent Citra Pale Ale and only £2 a pint.

A fairly new addition to the Newcastle Under Lyme drinking scene open for just over a year now and a self-styled gin palace providing over 120 different gins alongside cask ales, craft beers and assorted cocktails.
The long thin Tardis interior is not a bad take on the genre and although probably missing the opulence of a real Victorian Gin Palace the copious light wood panelling, dark red carpeting, stained glasswork and large chandeliers is a decent modern take on it, but the copious amounts of flat screen teles (I stopped counting at 12) is definitely a modern addition.
The large downstairs bar area is mainly set up for vertical drinking with some limited settee seating round the edge and limited high stool tables in the middle for the front section. But I am guessing the Juniper Lounge private drinking area for hire on the first floor at the front is aimed that those who want to sit down all evening.
Now I fully respect I am long past being the target demographic for this place and that an early lunch time will be completely different to visiting after midnight at the weekend, but I quite liked this place and would not hesitate to visit again with the good lady who likes her gin, especially as the two Hogarths beers available were in fine form and at £2 a pint were the cheapest beers of the day whilst in town.

Accessable from both the High Street and bus station, the pubsign font reminds a visitor of Hogwarts, and the interior is indeed a pastiche of an Edwardian pub,but nicely done. It's tardis like inside, with a balcony to the front, wood panelling throughout, and bench seating and traditional furniture.Although described as a gin palace on the signage (and there is a long gin menu),real ale fans are catered for with three handpumps drawing Wychwood Hobgoblin and Hogarths Ruin at the Gaming Table and Up on the Pedestal, which was very good and only £2 pp.A fourth handpump was offering Old Rosie cider.Mine was a brief crawl visit ,but I enjoyed my stay and would happily return for the decent real ale at a very reasonable price.Worth including on any town centre crawl.

A recent refurbishment in a very similar style to the Hogarths in Ilkeston that I have also been to. Amber Taverns seem to have a style that is based on traditional Victorian or Edwardian pub interiors, but with modern rather than recycled materials. The exterior of this Hogarths is unpromising, but it's almost a Tardis moment when reaching the interior, for which the word "grand" would not be inappropriate.

The words "gin palace" feature prominently, and I am told that it can get fairly crowded later on, but at the time of my lunchtime visit it was pretty civilised. The bar staff were welcoming and friendly. The Hogarths beers were brewed, they told me, at Hogarths Brewery in Bolton; this is a microbrewery adjacent to the Bolton pub of the same name. As well as one Hogarths beer on the bar, there was also Marstons Pedigree and a real cider, with Banks's Sunbeam having recently gone off and the pump clip turned (Wetherspoons please note!). My half of Rake's progress was in good condition, though not really to my taste; at just £1 for a half I wasn't complaining.

A new modern bar that's styling itself as a 'gin palace'. Now that would usually make me want to avoid the place but having noticed 'Cask Ales' written on the windows I decided to investigate. Happily there were 3 casks available though only two were on. These were both Lymestone beers with the Stone Cutter being respectable. The place is very modern and sort of stretches back. There is an upstairs part apparently but I never went up there. As expected it sells a lot of gins so I imagine it could take a while to get served when its chocker due to the prancing around while 'building' several gins and the usual allotment that's piled into the glass. As it was, this was an afternoon visit and the place was pretty empty. The place is OK but not really a place I'd rush back to.

Briefly reopened as Destiny, another formulaic night club. Closed a year ago, rumoured to have been purchased by Amber Taverns.
