Old Boots left this review about The Duke of York

Leeds Brewery' s first pub in York converted from two older buildings, it is almost opposite York Brewery's The Last Drop. The central door leads into a two room ground floor, the polished concrete topped counter is end on to the door with four handpumps serving the Leeds range in front of you. A further eight pumps with local guests (Great Heck, Brass Castle) and more from Leeds sit on the long face of the counter in the left hand room, the counter incorporates the trademark pump clip shape as at other Leeds pubs. Keg founts serve some interesting beers from Brooklyn and Magic Rock amongst others. To the right is a small sitting room furnished with bench seating, with the trademark cut into the back, a pew and short stools at low tables, decor is old railway posters and at the far end of the bar is a standing room only alcove with a few more railway posters. To the right through an arched gap is another sitting / eating room with a low beamed ceiling, a couple of leather armchairs at a low table and some tables and chairs. Decor in here is a mixture of prints and photos with a Duke of York / nautical theme (HMS Duke of York I expect). Flooring throughout is a tasteful mix of laminate and concrete flags, the walls a mix of pastel shades and exposed brick. Upstairs is a more dining oriented area with tables and chairs, more railway posters adorn the walls, the toilets are also up here although there's a disabled one downstairs. The staff were young and relatively enthusiastic and the beer was OK but not outstanding. Leeds have spent a fair bit of money here and I'll be back to see how it develops.
