A detached pub and restaurant, with a patio area. I believe the name translates to something akin to 'valley of oaks' - and the pub sign is a tree. This was originally a cottage, which was certainly there by the 1880s. It seems that it was extended slightly, but was eventually converted into a pub in the later 20th century (and extended at the back). It is a tidy building, in yellow render, with white paintwork and a projecting porch. The interior is open plan, but has two clear sides - one side is more lounge/bar, the other lounge/dining, but the place retains a more traditional feel than the age of the pub suggests. The interior is generally in a creamy artex, with the 80s style fake beams. I saw no TV and the music was general and at a decent level. There is a pool and dart area. The place is tastefully decorated with prints, mirrors and a few hanging jugs. The service was fine and a few diners were in. We didn't eat, so can't comment on the food. Beer; usual tap stuff with a single real ale on at my visit, which was Box Stem Tunnel Vision - which was decent. All-in-all, a nice country pub that should appeal to most. I wish i had had more time to stay.
