Cleaned up but no changes to the lovely Victorian interior under new owners Brudenell and Kirkstall brewery. Obviously the beer choice majors on Kirkstall beers, so no problem there. Two banks of four pulls have four from Kirkstall plus four guests from far and wide. The keg choice is decidedly non standard on three t-bars. Even the ceiling rose in the tap room appears to be Kirkstall. Other than a poorly trained barmaid it was a fine drinking experience.

This is a Grade II listed building and was built in 1802. The pub is now owned by Enterprise Inns and they have invested a lot in their recent refurbishment. Some of the main internal features here were the ornate and elaborate cornice and arch work. I especially liked the corner niche, with leather upholstered buttoned banquette seating in the main lounge, the original glazed tiling also added splendour. There was a beautiful marble fireplace on the left hand side of the bar, which was lit on this occasion.
The bar was mahogany, with a clock high above the rear server. There was carpets throughout and walls were finished with a heritage designed wallpaper, curtains to match.
Three handpumps on the bar offering Timothy Taylor, Saltaire Blonde and their regular Otter bitter. The Otter was 3.6% and had good flavour. The staff here were welcoming and chatty. This pub is definitely worth a visit.

The Black Horse is a grand looking pub from the outside that is situtated on a very busy corner.
Once inside the pub is just has grand, the main room is oblong shaped with the bar on the left side, the room is carpeted, the seating opposite the bar is posh looking chairs and and tables,i had a drink in the front area which is described as the old tap room, this area had a grand looking ceiling with a large chandalier hanging from it,the seating was very comfy red leather bench seating.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Saltair Blonde which went down very well, the other beers were Taylor Landlord and Everards Pumpkin Ale.
This pub was much quieter than other pubs visited earlier,my only gripe about this pub was the open fire was not lit,but the pub was warm enough though.

Having been closed for some time, the Black Horse was taken on by an enthusiastic young couple just two weeks before our visit. We were hugely impressed by the building and the internal appearance (see photos) so it was disappointing to find only one beer available on hand pump. The pump clips for Timothy Taylor Landlord and Copper Dragon Best had been turned around, leaving just Black Sheep Bitter on. Fortunately this beer was in very good condition, and we enjoyed our brief visit here. Definitely worth a visit if you're a fan of pub and hotel architecture and one to include if you're on a crawl of Otley's fantastic pubs.
