A traditional looking pub in the centre of this small village and just a stone’s throw from the estuary, it has apparently just been taken on by new owners but there were nonetheless a handful of punters in on our recent mid-week afternoon visit, when it might well be expected to be very quiet.

It’s a single room, U-shape pub internally, and whilst remaining fairly traditional in terms of décor it has clearly had a bit of a spruce up and looks quite smart and up together. There are plenty of black wooden beams on the ceiling, dark wood strip on the majority of the floor along with some slate tiling by the bar counter, and a vibrant turquoise paint on the wall along with dark wood panelling down below. To the left had side there were some areas of exposed stone walling and a sort of snug area with a couple of Chesterfield style leather sofas, a fireplace and a bookshelf. Elsewhere the seating was mostly regular tables and chairs, along with a few stools at the bar. A couple of oars were hung on the ceiling, as well as a couple of strings of fairly lights and some foliage. In the room to the right, it looked as though the setting up of a karaoke machine may have been in progress which was rather worrying, but fortunately we left before any of that nonsense started.

The solitary beer on tap was Doom Bar, with a second pump appearing unused, although it may well me that the new owners are still finding their feet so hopefully that will improve. Ciders meanwhile were Inch’s Medium Apple and Thatcher’s Haze. All in all, it seemed a decent enough local, and I’d be happy to pop in again if passing.

Been drinking in this pub since moving back to the village a year ago. Superb landlord and lady, Dave and Sheila. Always friendly and the only pub in the village with any real charecter left! Good food, especially the seafood sizzlers and their own fish and chips. Great selection of beers, currently Otter, Bass, Adnams Broadside, Aspalls Cider and Addlestones Cider, plus the usual "fizzy" beer. Well worth a trip to, you can eat in the bar or restaurent, and they are dog friendly. See you there! Mines a pint of Bass
