This is a strange place. It functions as a cafe from Monday to Saturday which closes at 14:00 on Friday and Saturday. After the cafe people have cleared up and cashed up (15:00 Saturday & 16:00 Friday) completely different people come in and run it as a bar until 21:30 Saturday and 22:00 Friday. It's a fairly spartan wooden-floored L shaped room housed in the right hand part of the up platform's station building. There is a door leading to the platform but it was not in use. There is virtually nothing in the way of external signage. There was music playing on my Saturday visit with an amplified singer / guitarist setting up for later.
They have one hand pump which had Bradford Hockney Pale at £3.00. There are two keg taps which had a Gypsy Hill collaboration Raspberry Sour called N x SE and Alphabet Hoi Polloi Pilsner. A fridge contains various bottles and cans of local "craft" beers and a couple of ciders. Their main item for sale is gin of which they claim to stock over 80.
I noticed that two bottles of Ticketybrew beers were on offer for £5.00 so went for their Dubbel which gave me an oversize pint. I also tried the Hoi Polloi Pilsner (£4.00).
This is more of a bar (or Gin Joint) than a micropub especially in comparison to Calan's up in town. I'd call in again though if only because I always seem to get to stations way too early.
