Blackthorn _ left this review about Strings

This is certainly not a pub in the traditional sense, but it meets the usual criteria of being able to wander in and buy a drink, etc., so it’s worth reviewing it. It is in fact more of a cocktail bar, and to emphasise this instead of the usual array of hand pumps on the bar counter there was just a couple of liquidisers.

There were just as many bouncers outside as bar staff inside which didn’t make it very inviting, although when we visited at around 9:30 on a Thursday evening it was more or less empty. Inside it’s all one large open room, quite long and narrow as well as being dark and distinctly chilly. The only thing that was warm was my bottle of cider. As far as I could ascertain in the subdued lighting, the floor looked to be a parquet wood type affair, the walls were red and the ceiling black. A number of lights and glitter balls were hanging around. The rear of the pub is mostly open space with a few sofa’s and tables down one side. There was a projector screen at the rear which had been taped to the wall with black tape.

The theme of the pub seems to be guitars, as reflected in it’s name, and there were numerous example around the wall. One of these allegedly belonged to The Jam at one time (at least, that was the inference- there was a piece of paper stuck next to it that said “The Jam”). Besides the actual instruments, there were a number of glass display cases full of small figures strumming guitars, several rock related pictures, vinyl disks and a Showaddywaddy outfit in a glass frame. At about 9:50pm someone came round and stuck a wristband on our arm as apparently “you have to pay to get in after 10:00pm and you will get chucked out if they think you haven’t”.

As previously mentioned, no draft drinks of any description were available unfortunately. They did have bottled Thatcher’s Gold, but I omitted to check the ale selection, if there was one.
