A somewhat tucked away little pub, but well worth taking the effort to track down as it’s situated in an idyllic spot alongside the canal with plenty of decking and picnic benches running along the front of the pub to make the most of the outlook (much as I’d like to show you that outlook, the photograph of it has for some reason been referred to admin for approval).

Internally it is perhaps slightly more contemporary than might be expected, but nonetheless is still very pleasant with a relaxed and chilled out ambience. It’s largely one open plan room, although divided in to two with a free-standing and dual aspect brick chimney breast housing a wood burning stove. Décor wise, the paintwork is a mixture of cream and maroon whilst the flooring is mostly carpet with some wood strip around the bar. Several leather sofas were dotted around, and a few board games were available to play. A smaller room off to the left had white wood panelling on the walls as well as a number of water colours and was perhaps more intended for dining. The couple running it seemed pleasant enough, although service at the bar was a little haphazard.

Beers on tap were both quite local with Stroud Brewery’s Tom Long and Wickwar’s Falling Star, whilst a third pump appeared to have run out. Ciders meanwhile were Stowford Press and Thatcher’s Haze.

New discovered pub while touring Gloucestershire. Appears to adjoin a canal spur/River Severn inlet and is a nice little local. According to the barman recently changed hands and improvements to be made. Also has accommodation.
