As with many others, 6 of us walked in in-challenged, ordered beers and played pool on a decent table. The beer was a bit rough, with a distinct vinegar twang. I don't think we will be back, lots of better pubs in town.

Just walked in here out of light rain without being challenged. Got a half of real ale but it was a bit vinegary. Nothing special about this place.

A good looking building that is bigger inside than external appearances suggested. We were not challenged to produce membership of Camra or anything else, and it felt just like walking into a pub. The welcome from the lass behind the bar was friendly, and she was happy to talk to us about the choices of ales on the three available hand pumps (of four), including Stjärnskådare from Pydd Steam (Swedish for stargazer). This is a smart pub, with carpet throughout, comfortable chairs and good quality tables. There's food available, beer is £2 a pint on Tuesdays (reduced from £2.60), and both pool and juke box are free on Wednesdays. It was quiet in here until the juke box chipped in with a random track, but when I asked the lass to turn it down so that we could continue our conversation, she kindly turned all the speakers off in our part of the lounge!

This club was a short walk from our hotel for the weekend (the excellent Pearl Hotel for anyone looking for good digs in P'boro). Although the front door entry system didn't seem to work, once we'd walked around the back and in through the smokers patio we found the club highly impressive and friendly. There were 3 ales on from small micros and all at £2.50 a pint. They were all a tad on the cold side for my palate but all in good nick. They were all around the 4.0% ABV mark and I got the impression that was to keep the price to £2.50. I do feel that perhaps something a little stronger would have been nice but I guess they know their clientele. Overall a very welcoming and friendly club which accepts non-members.

This club is in the 2013 Good Beer Guide and had a good choiuce of real ales on the bar from Castor, Pennine, Brewsters, Crouch Vale and Hopshackle at £2.50 a pint. Beer in great condition and both staff and customers friendly. They have a pool table, dart board and TV. CAMRA members welcome on production of membership card. No 1 bus from city stops at the door. About half a mile from centre.
