Blackthorn _ left this review about The Bear Inn

A largish street corner pub in a quiet part of Weston away from the town centre, this is I believe a recently opened pub, or perhaps re-opened. I would guess that it was previously a B&B as there are many of these in the vicinity, and it still has that look about it.

Inside it’s all one large open room, and despite the pub’s apparent newness this shows little sign of any recent decoration. Colour scheme is a mixture of cream and maroon, with the top and bottom third of the walls being cream with the maroon in the middle. No doubt somebody thought it looked nice at one time. The room is carpeted and had a plasma mounted on one wall, although this was not in use, and there was a piano underneath. On the other side of the room was an open fire with a few logs crackling away, and a selection of books, presumably to peruse or swap.

A large bear was behind the bar which seems appropriate given the pub’s name, and a blackboard detailed some forthcoming live music nights. There is also apparently a pool table in an upstairs function room. The only other punters in on a recent Thursday evening visit were a group of northerners who were presumably working in the area going on their high-vis jackets.

Beers on tap were Hobgoblin, Marston’s EPA and Stonehenge Sign of Spring. Ciders were both from Thatcher’s with their Dry and Gold although there were also some bottled ones from Wilcox which is a new one on me. The Gold was reasonably priced at £2.90 a pint, and a board above the bar listed a few cocktails which were also good value at £2.50. In many ways this ticks most of the boxes for a decent pub, but somehow it just didn’t do it for me unfortunately.
