Moved on a bit in here and it now feels more like a drinking place - but it is essentially a shed with a bar. A number of Lovibonds on keg and a fridge of stuff from them and elsewhere. Two halves for a fiver and both of mine were fine, if perhaps not the finest examples of craft keg you’ll ever drink. Heavy metal music for company as well as a fancy dress pub crawl, with one person dressed as a postbox. Would have been quiet otherwise. 6.5

Tucked into the rear of Market Place is the tasting room for Lovibonds, a small brewery specializing in ‘craft’ keg beers and featuring in such pubs as the Alehouse in Reading. The tasting room (and ‘room’ is what it is) allows you to sample their full range alongside some of the other craft keg luminaries. Our snowy visit found seven fonts dispensing six Lovibonds and a guest in the form of Kernal. Prices are, as is to be expected from this type of brewer it seems, a little on the expensive side for the average 4-5% abvs but I suppose you get to sample the unusual. The beers were certainly in decent shape if served mighty cold. A large industrial gas jet heater was on full blast trying to keep the sub-zero temperatures at bay, which a couple of my party decided was perfect for warming up the beer a degree or two. The tasting room interior is pretty much an open space with brown sofa alongside a couple of tables and chairs plus a shelf showcasing beery gifts to purchase and take away. Décor consists of a number of supersized pump clips attached to the walls. There are a few benches outside which probably afford more drinking ambience in the summer months. If you’re in Henley it’s worth popping in to try something unusual even if it’s not exactly a pub-like venue. Note that it only opens Friday-Sunday. Rated 6

A barn of a place with access off the public car park, as the name suggest this gives the opportunity to sample the output of a fairly creditable craft brewery, although they no long brew on the premises. Following typical craft tendency, they sadly insist on serving the beers gassy and cold, which personally I find detracts from the excellent and varied range of flavours, but no doubt some like it that way. Only open at weekends, and with live music most Friday evenings. Something very different, but that is what pubs are all about. Well worth a visit, if just for the novelty.
