I really enjoyed my visit to this pub, though I was so busy being chatted to and questioned by landlord and customers alike, that I had no opportunity to take any notes. One drinker, hearing I lived in Sheffield, asked me about pubs he used to go in 50 years ago, which I was happy to answer. But, I asked him, why not go and see for yourself, it's only 35 minutes on the train and a Derbyshire Wayfarer is such good value if you're over 60. Another regular chimed in extolling the value of said ticket, and I could have been there all day. This was made worse when I noticed a beer being brought up from the cellar: I had failed to notice that as well as the six hand pumps on the fairly small bar, which has been adapted from some chapel furniture, there are two pump clips advertising beers direct from the barrel - so of course I had to have another, didn't I. To top it all, there are high shelves around both rooms with examples of (unopened) bottled beers from many years ago - Andy, the landlord, described one that he'd had a duplicate of and they'd opened it to see if it was still drinkable (it was). I can feel a return visit coming on.

This Micro pub with Micro Brewery supplying Marlpool ales was a true gem. The pub consists of two very small rooms and a small patio area out the back. The front room hosts a short, but high bar counter. The rear room has a wood burning stove, which was lit and one solid oak table with a bench along the wall and a couple of chairs. Six ales, three from Marlpool and three guest. The Marlpool Scatty Ratty and one their beers named Frank, would be easy contenders for Beer of the Week. We also tried one of their guest beers Imperial Yorkshire Born and Breed. A couple of the locals and the pub owner's brother kept us entertained and were great fun. I recommend an early doors visit here as space is so limited.

The Marpool Ale House is a micro pub that is almost next door to the Queens Head.
Once inside there is a very small room to the front with the bar facing, the is a pew seat facing the bar and about three stools and one small table, there is a separate room to the rear which is slightly bigger and too full to go in on my Friday afternoon visit.
There was a good choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Marpool Ratty Scatty which was a very nice drink, the other Marpool beers were Otters Pocket and Blind Boris,i noted two guest beers which were Aurora Light Show and Wilson Potter Ruby Red.
The pub was a bit too busy to get a proper impression of it.
