There is currently a big For Sale board outside, but still seems to be open at the moment. From what I can gather 2 years left on the existing lease and a further 10 year lease agreed which is transferable. Potential for someone to make big changes to this place - start doing meals, decent selection of real ales, etc. It's a big impressive building but more could be made of it than its current offering.

Doom Bar is the sole real ale on offer at the Ship. The pub itself is a large imposing building with some lovely detail inside with the fireplaces, dark wood and stained glass. It's a big place and we managed to grab a table even on Christmas Eve when it was quite busy. Unfortunately the Doom Bar was not brilliant, tasted bland and watery, although my tastebuds may have been spoilt by a couple of decent pints at the Grocers beforehand!

Large 16th Century relatively unspoilt pub with high ceilings, plenty of dark wood and an assortment of stained glass with a fine example of this perched over the pool table. On entry there is a small time warped room to the right followed by a wooded staircase. The bar is on the left with a large room behind this although this was in darkness on my Tuesday lunchtime visit. Not much going on in the cask ale department although the pint of Tetley Smooth was ok.There is 2 function rooms available and some form of activity on every night, but perhaps the most unusual is the Wednesday's 'Barber in the bar'night where from 6-30pm till 8-30pm you can have your haircut.Might be worth a visit to the Gents to check the 3 large urinals out,and although not in the same league as the Philharmonic in Liverpool is nevertheless worth a peep.Quite liked it in here,it was like going back in time, but the pool table did put a bit of a damper on it.
