Pretty similar to how it was before…except all three pumps were dispensing a pretty pedestrian Brakspear Bitter! As noted below, the brewing equipment has been stripped-out and shipped to the Bull down the road. What a comedown. I guess everyone has their price, and sadly Henley was deprived of something a bit different to the Marstons monopoly when the owners of the original Brew House sold-up and made off with the filthy lucre proffered by them.

October 2014
Those who have enjoyed the beer in the Henley Brewhouse might like to know that they have until Sunday to repeat the experience. That is its last day of trading. The rumour is that it has been purchased by Brakspear / Marstons because it had affected the trade in their own pubs. The optimists counter is that maybe they will use the brewing kit to produce Henley Special Bitter – actually brewed in Henley. Rated 6

January 2013
The Henley Brew House is a new brewpub venture from one of the people behind the old Firkin chain. Housed in a building that was previously a police station (!), it occupies a decent spot just a little up the hill from the immediate town centre but is still easily accessible. The building’s exterior has had a large hop stencilled onto its side. The bar area has been done out in a slightly disappointing identikit style and reminded me somewhat of how Brakspear are currently refurbishing their outlets (ironic, given that Brakspear used to brew in Henley…). The long narrow bar area leads down a couple of steps to a more pleasant opened-out back room done out like a conservatory with large skylights and pot plants. I suspect you can’t really drink here as it was all laid out for table dining. En route you can see a part of the brewing kit through large glass panels and a blackboard advertised a ‘brew your own beer’ evening. Six pumps were dispensing two of the Henley homebrews (Jailhouse and Temple Island), plus three guests all with tasting notes by the pump. My initial drop of Hooky Double Stout was lifeless and in retrospect I should have taken it back. My second, one of their own beers in Temple Island, was a fine brew and if that’s their general standard of output then they’ll do alright. A number of posh keg fonts dispensed a variety of premium products. This is a brave venture in a town already well-served by pubs and I hope they do well. I’ll be popping back to see how they’re doing and hopefully the standard of beer across the pumps will good enough to make me up my score as a result. Rated 6

Now open again, although the brewing equipment has been moved to the Bull. Modernised designer sort of interior, extending back into a large restaurant area at the rear. Seemed to be aimed more at ladies who lunch rather than traditional drinkers but pleasant enough and a friendly welcome. Draught ales on at time of visit were Braks Oxford Gold and Wainwright. Cask Marque listing.

Sadly, to kill the optimists view. The pub is currently closed for refubishment and to have the brewery removed according to South Oxfordshire CAMRA.

Another good smart pub but maybe too food led for my liking.I have visited Henley loads of times but have rarely had a drink due to the stranglehold Brakespears have over the pubs.3 beers from their micro brewery plus 2 guests so great choice makes it a must visit in future.Decent own beers and an excellent Binghams beer cheered me up as the torrential rain poured down outside.
