Blackthorn _ left this review about Sidney & Eden

One of a number of bars in converted shop units on the popular Gloucester Road strip, this has existed in it’s present guise for around three years, but has operated under a couple of different names previously.

Décor wise it’s fairly unremarkable and perhaps betrays it’s retail origins in style, but was nonetheless not unpleasant. Dark wooden boards are on the floor, along with painted walls in a deep navy blue on the lower half, and whitewashed paintwork up above. There were a number of colourful pictures dotted around, as well as some arched mirrors that looked rather like windows. Seating was mostly regular tables and chairs, along with some padded bench seating to the right and a few padded tools. Large windows covered the entire pub frontage, and overall I thought it had a relaxed and chilled out ambience, even if it didn’t have the more traditional pub style that I would normally go for.

Beers on tap were all craft/keg dispensed from an unlabelled array of taps behind the bar, with a large board to the side listing the current selection. On this occasion they consisted of New Bristol Brewery’s Joy of Sesh and Coffee & Biscotti, Wiper & True’s Kaleidoscope and Milkshake, Polly’s Brew A Place Called and Dream Cycle, Verdant Little Palais, Barefaced Peacocks Bitter, Titanic Plum Porter Grand Reserve and a trio from Brew York – Rhubarbra Streisand, Kirsch Russel and Fairytale of Brew York. Cider’s meanwhile were Pilton Big Yikes and Snails Bank Raspberry Ripple. I opted for the Plum Porter which I’m quite partial to, although I’ve not tried the 6.5% Grand Reserve previously. Unfortunately though, this was served far too cold. Despite that though, I really liked this pub and will certainly pop in again when I’m next in the area.
