Unfortunately I have to contradict Alan Winfield, when he wrote "..if in Mexborough give this one a go you wont be dissapointed." I was in Mexborough this afternoon and it was my last pub before the train back to Sheffield. There was a band warming up, and just after I'd bought my half of Imperial Classical Bitter (of which more later) they opened their set with "Are You Ready for the Country", a cheerful, upbeat number written by Neil Young, about the thoughts a prisoner might have when he's about to be executed. They followed up with "Every Breath You Take" by the Police, a song about someone who is so controlling that he's going to be watching the woman he thinks he loves for "every breath you take, every move you make, every smile you fake, I'll be watching you". Double creepy.

I know the pub can't be responsible for the lyrics of the songs a band plays, but added to this, my beer was slightly sour - this in the brewery tap. I didn't complain because my train was already on its way and I didn't want to miss it and be stuck in Mexborough for a further hour of disappointment. Sorry, Alan.

Called in this 2016 Good Beer Guide bar on a CAMRA coach trip, and enjoyed choosing from the selection of 3 Imperial brewery beers, plus guests from Ossett, James and Kirkham, Walls, Hopcraft and Castle Rock. There is a large bar area, separate lounge area and a games room. They serve cider too, and hold beer festivals.

The Imperial Club & Brewery is situated close to the shops and bus station but is on the wrong side of the busy greens way to attract passers by.
Once inside the brewery was to the front left and in full view, there was a small serving bar to the rear left, the bar area had small tables and stools, there was a more comfortable area to the rear right which was up one step, this area had comfy bench seating and chairs, there was a TV in this area, just off this there was a working table top Space Invaders machice which i would have loved to have go on.
There was seperate room to the right which had normal tables and chairs near the front and a pool table to the rear.
There were five Imperial beers on the bar,i had a drink of Imperial bitter which was a very nice drink and also very cheap, the other beers were Hop Bomb,Blonde,Bees Knees and Dizzy Blonde, there was also a real cider on the bar.
I had my drink while watching people work in the brewery.
Sadly the place was empty on my Saturday dinner visit,if in Mexborough give this one a go you wont be dissapointed.

Although the word "club" still appears in the name, this is in fact now a pub. The main room has the bar at the far end, and there's a side room with pool table. The stage is still there, with a curtain that now hides the brewery's mash tun, the other workings being underneath. I had a drink of both the Imperial Bitter 3.9% and Imperial Stout 4.6%, both being fine beers in good condition and very reasonably priced. As well as Imperial Brewery beers on hand pump, there are draught Erdinger & Erdinger Dunkel, Belle Vue Kriek and Staropramen available.

Opens at 4pm during the week, 12 noon Saturdays and Sundays. Local Camra pub of the Season for Summer 2012. There will be a beer festival in the first days of December (Thursday 1st & Friday 2nd from 4pm, and from 12 noon Saturday & Sunday) featuring 20 real ales all from breweries established in the last year. The pub is an easy walk from the railway station with frequent trains from Sheffield or Doncaster. Well worth a visit.
