Moby Duck left this review about Bison Beer North Laine

A decent street corner Craft beer bar with ten plus beers from quality brewers, there were three or four other people in and the place had a good friendly feel about it, I'd be happy to call in again.

This is a small street corner bar in the busy Laines area, currently operated by the local Bison Beer brewery - complimenting their similar bar in Hove and a pop-up location on the seafront. The bar has a bit of a shop-conversion feel to it, thanks to the cramped interior and large front windows, which have plenty of seating arranged along them, for the ideal people-watching vantage point. The bar occupies much of the rear wall and is dominated by a long keg font, and liberally strewn with helpful beer menus. The decor is fairly restrained, but there is a bison print motif that can be found around various parts of the room, whilst to the right, a spiral staircase suggests that additional seating might be available upstairs. It was a hot, sunny day when I visited, so I took my pint outside, where cafe-style tables and chairs can be found along the pavement. In true craft beer bar fashion, there is a decent pizza menu to go at, in case the need for food gets in the way of your drinking.
I think I counted twelve craft keg lines in total, and at least one real cider option. I thought it best to try some of the home brew, so opted for the Bison Beer Cosmic Bone Juice, which cost £5.75 for a pint and was pretty good, slipping down nicely out in the sun. The staff were rushed off their feet, but remained friendly and efficient and there was a decent buzz about the place.
Another good venue from this brewery, which I thought was about on a par with their sister venue in Hove. A good range of craft beers, friendly service and a handy location all help make this a worthy destination.

Bison have been here long enough now to suspect they've been able to make a go of this site which has seen off previous operators. It's keg-only (the handpumps are used to stash the paper towels). The taps offer up predominantly local variations on pale ales with the odd weird beer. Food takes the form of burgers & fries.

Not the coolest (as in least warm) room on a hot summer afternoon, but the beer certainly was and the service was friendly and enthusiastic. It's worth checking out if you fancy trying out some Brighton & Sussex craft keg.

Steve C left this review about Brewery Tap

I walked past this building many times when it was a restaurant and wine bar, but never felt the need to go in and have a look even though I could see a couple of draught taps on the small bar.
It is now called the Brewery Tap which stocks craft beers at street level and cocktails in the downstairs bar. Upstairs there is extra seating and the toilets. There is also a disabled toilet at street level.
The seating is made up by standard chairs and tables which all bear a wax covered bottle that holds a candle. This isn’t the biggest place, but there was plenty of room on my recent Saturday night visit as there were only two other customers. There may have been more in the cocktail bar downstairs, but I didn’t descend the stairs although I could hear the music.

The service was friendly, but I found this place to be a little bland and do not plan to revisit.

Converted out of a restaurant / wine bar, Brewery Tap is one of they new-style craft beer bars. On the ground floor, behind the bar counter, an aluminium panel holds a long line of taps (unlike the Euston Tap, there's no cask ale here) while, alongside the windows, are squeezed a row of small tables and some seats. To the back, a spiral staircase leads, also Euston Tap-style, to a larger area upstairs with more comfortable seating. The toilets are also up here but, fortunately, unlike the Tap, there's more than one.

So: to the bar offering then. A quick scan reveals that, while the taps go up to 31, the blackboard above the counter can only give a name to 11 and even that seems unable to keep up with the diminished range. Rogue Dead Guy Ale in Sussex? Oh, yes please! Well, no, as that's all gone. I have heard others bemoaning the unavailability of anything like the expected number of beers and it seems that this is a problem yet to be solved.

On a positive note, there is a Happy Hour offering: £1.50 for a half of strong and interesting beer before 7:00 is certainly well worth investigating and a couple of tasters were offered without prompting.

The summary, though, is of a nice idea, poorly executed. Worth a look-in if you want to try out a different set of craft beers to those available at the Evening Star, Craft and elsewhere, but be prepared to choose from a range more limited than the number of taps might suggest.
