A very pleasant traditional roadside pub which has been opened out inside to form a single, large, irregular bar. There is a mix of tiled and carpeted floors, while it's heated by an open fire at one end and a woodburner at the other. A single servery is at one side. The landlady was most welcoming, while the locals - human and canine - were a decent, friendly bunch. There is a car park at one side, and while there is a garden at the back, the weather was such that we didn't explore it. There was a gaming machine in the rear part of the bar, and low-key background music was less obtrusive than it could have been. Three ales on draft were Branscombe Yo Ho Ho, Otter Ale and Tribute, all in very good condition. The mega range was limited but had something for most people. Food was good value pub grub. As roadside pubs on a main tourist route go, this one is well worth a visit.

Large village pub with its own access to the adjacent tram stop. Dark and comfortable interior with good ford trade. Various outdoor tables to rear and across car park. Butcombe Rare Breed sampled and in good order.
