Will Larter left this review about Bake & Alehouse

I had tried to time my arrival at this, my seventh micropub of the day, as close as possible to opening time, which is 5:30pm, so was surprised to find the small room almost full - about a dozen people including one or two children - at 5:35, with some drinkers already quite a way down their pints and engaged in lively conversation. Opening time is fairly flexible, it seems. The owner was very friendly but was being kept busy by his customers, running to and from the cold room where the beers are kept. Beers are listed on a board, including those "coming soon"; to my eyes a fairly mundane offering, with Milestone, Oakham, Gadds and Old Dairy to be followed by another Gadds and one from Brains. However, my half of Old Dairy Copper Top was very good, well kept and went down a treat.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Bake & Alehouse

Archetypal micro-pub slightly hidden away down an alleyway beside the imposing Carlton cinema but well worth seeking out. Space is definitely at a premium, and you couldn't fit a counter in even if you wanted to... However, there are also a couple of basic canteen tables outside too. Up to eight real ales can be offered, and choice of six in a wide range of styles was available when I visited. That said, and due to incomplete research on my part, it was actually closed for the afternoon when I stopped by, but the obliging and friendly landlord took pity on a passing pilgrim and I enjoyed a splendid pint of Goody Good Lord porter (£3.20). Excellent place.

This micro can be found tucked away down a side alley, which is located between Coral bookmakers and the Carlton Cinema. The layout consists of an ample sized front room with a couple of high tables and stools along the back wall and a couple of smaller tables and chairs along the left hand side. The beer board is clearly positioned along the side of the cask cold room, so very handy for a quick perusal as your enter. There was no bar area to be seen, so your beer was served directly from the cold room. Six ales and four ciders available on our visit. The beer choice was Darkstar Hophead, Gadds No.7, Tonbridge Firebrick, Wantsum Black Prince, Wantsum Ravening Wolf and Hopdaemon Incubus.
