Steve of N21 left this review about Barringtons Wine Bar

Popped back in again this week when again in Leicester for lunchtime and needing somewhere to eat that sold decent beer. Now branded as Barrington’s Wine bar, but internally I could not see a great deal of difference in the two room set up that I remember from three years ago, except that the Spanish theme has gone and it is a standard modern wine bar refit with lots of comfortable table seating .
It’s now no longer a Tapas bar , but a more mainstream wine bar with a more standard bar menu of Burgers and sandwiches and the Leicestershire Ploughman’s we had a £6 a pop were perfectly fine
The bar doesn’t seem to have the foreign beer collection I remember last time, but still has three hand pumps on the bar. Two were in operation with Black Sheep bitter and Harpers from the Great Oakley Brewery on offer.
However, with the Kings Head and the Pub just around the corner this is not a place you would come for the beer but more a wine bar with a decent food menu that has the advantage of a couple of decently kept ales for those of us that do not guzzle Pinot Grigio.

Interesting place. It’s definitely a Tapas Bar and that’s how it advertises itself from the outside. But once inside you are greeted by three real ale hand pumps in the bar area and there were two on during my visit with Micro Brewery beers from the States. The bar also supported several bottled beers from around the world with quite a few German and Belgium ones from what I could see. So someone here does know their beer.
I didn’t find the décor too bad and has been done in a modern Spanish feel, the type you find in the trendy bars and restaurants of Barcelona.
In fact the only complaint I can make is that the Tapas we tried didn’t come up to the level of the beer or the prices and were a bit average. Now I may be being a bit picky, as I am blessed to have some top notch Tapas bars a short distance from my North London home, one in particular which is run by Catalans. But after seeing the beer range exceeding the usual San Miguel offering for Spanish restaurants and an average price of £5 to £6 a dish I was expecting something special , and it came in more to average.
