Steve C left this review about Fothergills

Fothergills is an open fronted kitchen and bar that was busy with a twenty-something crowd during a recent Wednesday evening visit. The bar counter to the right faces high tables whilst supporting Shiny Brewery’s Afterglow and Next Episode alongside Tiny Rebel’s Pixel City and a range of Premium and craft keg. I thought the staff were very moody, verging on angry, which may have been due to the manager who seemed to rate himself quite highly. Card only. In future I think I’ll stick to the many drinking venues in Nottingham where people are welcomed in for their custom.

A bit split about this place, five nice ales (spring head roaring Meg, shipstons gold star, Robin Hood pale ale and a cider with on clip reversed). price are Sky high for Nottingham at £4!! beer was nice but that is extortionate for the area, the cider was £4.25! the atmosphere of the place is nice but more of a bistro and not a pubby atmosphere which I didn't like but pleasant non the less, ok but the price is too much and i am not yet willing to pay this, beer was good quality.

Part of Mortimer House which was designed by Watson Fothergill, he also designed the Rose of England pub on Mansfield road. This pub is well worth a visit for it's good beers and food. Five handpumps on my visit, enjoyed Castle Rock Diamond Reign. Was nice to sit out front in the sun.

Popped in last weekend before a meal at World Service just round the corner. Excellent selection of ales, including Pie Eyed 150, a beer from Castle Rock celebrating Notts County's 150th birthday. The food menu looked great and they sell fizz by the glass so pretty wife friendly. I remember this place when it was a keg beer restraunt and the change is most welcome. I hope that they can make it pay this time as it has been closed on and off for the past couple of years. Nottingham need places like this, especially in the summer when the big folding doors are open and you can drink on the outside slabs.

This pub first opened in the mid 80s and when i first went in here there were only keg beers on the bar.
After a short period of closure Fothergills has reopened and there is now a good choice of real ales on the bar.
The main entrance is to the left hand side of the pub this takes you into a small room with a couple of tables and chairs, the main room is down a few steps this room is L shaped and bare boarded, the seating is mainly chesterfields and leather chairs with low tables, there is also another small room down a few more steps to the right.
There were 5 pumps on the bar,i had a drink of Castle Rock Harvest Pale which was a very nice well kept pint the other beers were Flipside Flipping best,Derventio Emperors Whim,Castle Rock Pie Eyed and a Welsh beer which may have been a cider called Gwynt Y Drag Dog dancer.
The pub does food and i found this to be a nice pub to sit and relax over a decent pint, the landlord said they do Camra discounts on pints and halfs.
The pub is situated opposite the castle walls and Robin Hoods statue.
There is a small seating area at the front of the pub which catches the sun in the afternoon.
This pub is ideal for taking your wife or girlfriend in but it is not a place for gangs of blokes to go drinking.
I quite liked it in here and i think it is a good addition to the Nottingham drinking scene.
