Blackthorn _ left this review about Wagon & Horses

A prominent red brick pub just a short stroll from the town centre, this is a basic, no frills boozer that looks to have been untouched for years, although rather than having any sort of old world charm it just looks tired and dated.

Internally it consists of an L-shaped bar to the left and a lounge to the right, although both appeared broadly similar in terms of décor, and even the lounge had a pool table in it. The left hand bar had a mixture of old red lino and laminate wood strip on the floor and wood panelling on the lower part of the walls that had been painted a deep maroon colour. A darts board was at the rear and beyond this a small courtyard garden. The walls were liberally decorated with pictures of bands, many from the 60’s such as Petula Clark, Elvis, The Shadows and Shakin’ Stevens. There were also a number of vinyl LP’s on the walls including a picture disk version of the Pistol’s Never Mind the Bollocks which I would guess must be worth a bob or two. A large TV screen was mounted up on the wall, although the volume was off so this was not too intrusive, and instead a few of the punters were shovelling money in the juke box. A small brick fire-place looked to be no longer in use, whilst the red vinyl beck seating had a number of splits and tears in it. Lighting was provided by bare fluorescent bulbs, which I suppose does make a change from the trendy exposed filament lamps that seem to be de rigeur in most pubs these days.

Beers on tap were 6X and Butcombe, whilst ciders were well represented with four from Thatcher’s – Gold, Dry, Haze and Traditional.
