A relatively recent addition to West Street, this is really much more of a cafe/bar than your traditional pub, and indeed on initially entering all the tables appeared to be laid up for food and I was unsure if we would be able to just stop for a drink. Apparently we could though, and on further investigation there were in fact a few low leather sofas towards the rear of the pub which were presumably intended more for drinkers. There is also a small courtyard out the back.

Decor wise, despite purporting to have a Mediterranean theme, I thought the style was more Middle Eastern with fabric drapes on the ceiling, swinging incense burners and plenty of leafy vegetation. Flooring was sanded wood and there were large windows all across the front to make the most of the outlook, such as it is, whilst a few colourful scenic pictures brightened up an otherwise rather plan wall. A rather rough and ready porch had been tacked on just inside the door, and reminded me of a garden shed. There were probably a few too many noisy kids in there for my liking, although to be fair we were there around 6:30pm one evening. It probably has a different clientele a little later.

We didn’t inspect the menu, although a few chalkboards up on the wall advertised a selection of omelettes, Panini’s, jacket potatoes and breakfast options. Prices appeared quite reasonable with most of the omelettes being under a fiver.

Unfortunately there were no ales on tap, real or otherwise, or indeed anything in bottles come to that which is pretty inexcusable these days. This was despite there being “beer and wine” displayed prominently in the window to lure unsuspecting punters in. On the plus side though, they had Thatcher’s Gold cider on tap which went down a treat. This is a tricky one to mark; as a pub it falls woefully short on most counts and as this is a pub review website it’s inevitably going to have to get a low score. If you’re after a bite to eat and a glass of wine though, it may well fit the bill very well.

Another more cafe bar than traditional pub but yet it serves beer. Nice light bright open plan area.
