E TA left this review about The Red Lion Inn

Well described below, we found a friendly local, though it was robust and definitely had no frills. The regulars were interested in our dogs, the jukebox was much too loud, the gaming machines sat unused and the Doombar, still the only ale on offer, was average. A spit-and-sawdust pub without the sawdust.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Red Lion Inn

Fairly bland town centre pub where I was the only customer on my Wednesday lunchtime visit. The landlord was in the process of cleaning the place when I arrived.

Doom Bar is still the regular real ale. Although 6X was also available as a guest. I didn't fancy either, but even the soft drink choice was extremely limited.

I'm sure that with a few people in, there could be a decent atmosphere in here. But otherwise, this has very little going for it.

Graham Coombs left this review about The Red Lion Inn

A fairly gloomy interior in this locals' pub, which looks bigger from the outside than it seems inside. There is a large central bar area with a games room one way and a dining room the other. Only Doom Bar apparent on the ale front but it was drinkable enough.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Red Lion Inn

Basic town local, with quite an inviting façade but very austere inside. The layout has been partly opened-out at some stage to leave the main bar area in the middle, with a slightly raised 'L'-shaped pool / darts / live music area at one end and another room hidden in darkness at the other. Just two of five handpumps in use, with Doom Bar and a 'house' beer called The Tarandy Ale (just £1.00, half) on the other.

friendly welcome from staff and locals. Nice ales. Not dog friendly, although we were told we could bring our dog in, our dog chased by landladys growling dog. Will not return.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Red Lion Inn

The Red Lion is a smallish pub that is close to the centre of Axminster.
Once inside the pub was quite comfortable with one room and also a dining area which was empty.
There was a good choice of beers on the bar with four real ales being on i had a dring of Branscombe Vale Branoc and this was a decent drink the other beers were Otter Ale, Otter bitter and Cotleigh Tawney bitter.

Pub visited 20 August 2002.
