Blue Scrumpy left this review about Axminster Inn

The first of 3 I visited in Axminster on a Wednesday morning/lunchtime, this was easily the best.

The Axminster Inn is a Palmer's pub located in a narrow side street off the main road. It has a car park at the side with a tight entrance.

Just a couple of other blokes were present along with the barmaid and possibly the landlord.

The 3 real ales were all from Palmer's - IPA, Copper & Dorset Gold. I opted for the Dorset Orchards First Press cider, which was on an additional handpull at the far end of the bar.

A great little town boozer, currently owned by Palmer’s Brewery, and one of the last proper pubs left in the town. It’s mainly open plan, with three conjoined rooms on different levels. One of the rooms is a games room with a dart board and pool table, the largest room is the bar. There is a jukebox, TV screen which was off, and a very welcoming open fireplace with a log fire. They have a separate skittle alley adjacent to the enclosed car park at the back. There didn’t seem to be any food on offer, though apparently they do provide lunch sometimes. The staff were friendly and the locals very willing to engage. The beer was in great condition – Copper, 200, IPA, Tally Ho! and Gold were all on draft and went down well. If I lived here this is a pub I’d be visiting on a regular basis.

The tidiest of the Axminster pubs, this Palmers tied house is down a side street behind the church. Inside is a good traditional pub with a smallish main central bar, and a bigger side room with tables. A good selection of Palmers ales are well kept (Good Beer Guide regular and Cask Marque listing) as well as a cider or two. There is a skittle alley at the rear.

This is a pub I've been to a few times before. Back in the days before the mostly disastrous rail privatisation Axminster was on the extremities of Network South East so when they did a Network day promotion with a five quid ticket to take you anywhere on the network this was a favourite destination and the Palmers pub was the main attraction.
Inside it's a small wide wooden floored room with a TV that was off, a jukebox and a further small room off to the right down some steps. It was much brighter and cleaner than I remembered it.
The bar has six hand pumps which had one unused, Palmers Best, Copper, IPA, 200 and Dorset Gold. I tried the Copper (£3.20) and 200 (£3.85) both of which were excellent and so much better than the rather dull beers of old from that brewery.
This one has been a regular GBG entry for years and is well worth a visit.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Axminster Inn

Semi-traditional Palmer's house retaining two rooms; the fairly basic bar that you first enter, and a more modernised dining area off to one side and down a couple of steps. Clientele on a Saturday morning mostly older blokes, but some fantastic local accents partaking in the good-natured banter. Five real ales - Tally-Ho, Best Bitter (£3.20), 200, Dorset Gold and Copper Ale - and a cider (Taunton Traditional) on handpump. Overall, a pleasant place to stop.

This pub is in the middle of Axminster and it is a Palmers tied house.
Once inside here the pub was fairly small and there were two Palmers real ales on the bar i had a drink of Palmers best bitter which was a very nice drink.

Pub visited 20 August 2002.
