The good news 1st - All Wetherspoon pubs across the UK from Friday September 6 2019 are cutting the price of a pint. The pubs have reduced the price of a pint of real ale by an average of 20p. The Carrick Stone is named after a scheduled ancient monument shaped, like a Roman altar, standing in what is now the new town area of Carrickstone. According to local tradition, Robert the Bruce, King of Scots and also earl of Carrick, planted his standard here before the Battle of Bannockburn. The pub is on 2 levels at the north east side of the shopping centre. Access can be from the inside of the shopping centre or from the small car park in front of the pub. This access is more difficult if on foot, due to the main central drive road. The more pub side is on the ground floor with the 1st floor more family orientated. The pub has 8 hand pulls for cask ales of which 5 of are changing regularly.

This is set on the North Eastern corner of Cumbernauld Town Centre which is nothing more than a hideous modern shopping centre. There is an entrance from the shopping centre and one from the car park outside it. What Pub says it is on two floors but I completely missed any staircase as the toilets are downstairs. The room I found was roughly square with a raised area on the shopping centre side and the bar on the side next to it. There was a mix of the daytime brigade and shoppers.
The bar has just eight hand pumps which had two unused, two available soon, Abbot, Doom Bore, Strathaven Claverhouse Red and Broughton Spring Ale. I went for the Strathaven beer (£1.99) which was in excellent condition.
This isn't the worst shopping centre Spoons I've been to but in general it seemed a below par JDW.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Carrick Stone (JD Wetherspoon)

Without wishing to be unkind to the place, this inoffensive 'spoons on the edge of the weird undercover town centre is probably the most appealing feature of the locality. Six of eight handpumps in operation, with a fairly dull range (of which Schiehallion at £2.05 was the pick).
