A really interesting street corner pub with a traditional exterior. Inside it's one square room but with a very high ceiling and bare stone block walls. To one side is a real fire in a raised grate, bench seating and small stools around the periphery and two "ironing board" drinking shelves in the centre of the room, one with two levels and both with high stools. The flooring is dark and traditional while the high bar back has a big whisky collection and a required ladder to reach the bottles high up.
Two handpumps ,one reversed meaning hobsons choice of Salopian Beatific ,a good porter well kept (NBSS 4).There were some decent keg options too.
Despite the limited ale choice I warmed to the place, the tall barman was friendly and also has a raised serving area ,which he joked meant he could keep an eye out for who was entering, but maybe in Glasgow you need to react quickly to wrong 'uns !
Worth including in a real ale crawl.Features in the 2023 GBG.

Small but nicely formed traditional pub in the West End of Glasgow.

Two real ales on. One was very cloudy - meant to be like that was how my question was responded to. 2nd one was in good condition but too hoppy for my liking.

Nice collection of whiskies.

Pleasant experience.

The Ben Nevis is a cosy pub that was busy with fifteen other customers and a couple of dogs during a recent Monday night visit. The bar supports a premium keg range, Guinness and two hand pumps for the cask ale. However, the major draw of this pub is the huge selection of whiskies that line the back bar from the floor to the ceiling. There was no background music and I didn’t spot any other distractions such as a television. I was informed that live folk music is a regular here at the weekends, but I didn’t see any advertised. I loved the traditional décor and would return if in the area.
