Roger Button left this review about Clarendon Hotel

Perhaps not an immediate thought for a pint as it does appear to be strictly a hotel however the downstairs “Chart Bar” is open to allcomers – just go through the main entrance through the reception and down the stairs.

The bar is spacious and often deserted unless there is a function or reception on in the rear function room but even then a seat is normally guaranteed. The theme is nautical with the bar made out to resemble a ship’s deck and several maritime theme pictures and objects on display. Charts and maps are interwoveninto the bar counter. There is a pool area to one side, a piano in the corner and a TV in the rear function room.

There used to be a sole Real Ale (London Pride) that was constantly atrocious and they have wisely removed this in favour of a couple of Meantime craft beers (Lager and London IPA). They do have Spitfire and Black Sheep in bottles and a range of high street keg stuff. Prices are reasonable considering this is a) a hotel bar and b) well to do Blackheath. There is also a basic food menu with main courses ranging from £8-£16.

It is always a friendly enough place albeit with a dead ambience but if you just want somewhere to relax and chill with no crowds, thumping music or general interference, it is worth a look.
