A bar on the banks of the Shropshire Union canal in the centre of Chester where eating and drinking seem to get on well side by side. Four Real Ales were on sale with my Cheshire Brewhouse Engine Vein being an excellent beer on top form.
A more relaxing experience than the nearby very busy Old Harkers Arms.

Easily found along the Shropshire Union Canal and situated on the ground floor of the Steam Mill. The interior consists of a large front space with the bar on the right hand side. The rear room housed the kitchen and main dining area. The interior is typical heritage warehouse, with thick brick walls, open ceiling trusses and cast iron columns. Another feature here was the bar stools constructed from Meccano and Lego and retro white plastic chairs.
Four ales on handpump on our visit, which are all locally sourced. We went for the Merlin Brewery Merlin Gold and Deva Craft Beer Experimentium IPA. Both were in good shape and the service was good, but not very engaging.
There was also a fine collection of various gins and rums. This pub's policy is to source local beers as much as possible, which is always good to see.

Bistro bar on the canal. Serves up to 5 real ales on draught. Drinks are ok. Beware hideous, uncomfortable 1960s style 'futuristic' white seats that frankly look tacky. Trendy and therefore slightly dull. If they replaced the chairs with more comfortable ones it would be much better. Loses marks for the seats.
