Will Larter left this review about The Market Tavern

This is a stand-alone lounge bar, with the remainder of the building, which includes a modern extension, being a different business, albeit in the same ownership, named the Garden Shed. It's a smart building, seemingly having been redecorated outside and in fairly recently. The bar, on the left on entering, has two impressive banks of hand pumps, slightly spoiled by having only one pump clip, and that turned around. One of the regulars told me they sometimes have Saltaire Blonde for £1.95 a pint, presumably priced so that it sells before it goes off; he said it was gorgeous. The reversed pump clip was Doom Bar, to which no such reminiscences were attached. A lively bunch were watching football on the TV and there was a good atmosphere and friendly service. I had just called in to see whether there was ever any real ale: not often seems to be the answer. I had a small glass of whisky, a Dalwhinnie which was £3.70 - I should have asked how much the John Smiths Smooth Crap was. It's a shame we don't get expenses for writing reviews on this site.
