A detached corner pub, with patio area, that also does accommodation. The pub appears to be a c1920 rebuild of an earlier pub of the same name, on the same site. It is in a mock-17th century style, and look fabulous in stone, with Dutch gables, several oriel windows and some quions stones. The interior has two rooms, though technically open plan. It is in green, cream and wood panel, with a few fireplaces showing where the old rooms used to be. There are some sofas as well as general seating. There is a side area with pool and darts, and there are a host of TVs that were showing the footy. The service was functional and the clientele seemed more 'lad' based - and the music was general. Beer; with GK IPA and London Glory (gone) on handpull, I went for the Bellhaven Best for a change - it was OK. Not a great experience beer or pub wise - one for the locals

Alan Winfield left this review about The Red Lion Hotel

The Red Lion is a large stone built pub that is situated in the middle of Rothwells shopping area.
Once inside the front room is a decent sized bar which is oblong in shape, the seating was bench type and normal tables and chairs, there was a pool tables and darts board on a raised area to the right, the lounge to the rear can be accessed from the side door, this is a fairly large oblong shaped room, the floor was carpeted, the seating was comfy bench type and normal tables and chairs.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of GK London Glory which seemed slightly off the me,the other beer was GK IPA.
The pub is a bit rough around the edges,ok for a quick drink but no more.
